Relocation Day

Today we are leaving Tenerife and flying to Gran Canaria for another two weeks of fun in the sun. We had to return the rental car to the north airport from which we arrived so we had about an hour's drive north on the east coast road.

This was definitely the better highway for north-south travel. Controlled access 4-6 lane with a 120 kph speed limit. The little Seat cruised nicely at 100 - 110. As we approached La Laguna, the temperature dropped to around 17C and the drizzle started. We followed the signs to the rental car return and when we got to our vendor's area there was a sign saying "Returns" so we stopped and waited for the usual post rental inspection, fuel check etc. After waiting and nobody showing up we finally found someone that told us to just park it and head into the terminal to where we rented it. That was challenging in itself but we finally got there. The surprise was I just handed them the keys, they asked what the gas gauge indicated and said thank you good bye! I guess as long as you get it back that's all they care about! Different than in Scotland where they were examining the underbody with mirrors and flashlights and looking for the slightest mark so that could surcharge you!

It was a short local flight so we were on a small turboprop plane.

Not Chris's favourite especially on a gusty wind day. A terrified selfie while landing...

Back to the car rental place to pick up the next vehicle. The parting words were "we don't worry about a few scratches". We have another Seat Ibiza, a lot newer than the last one but I think with fewer hamsters on the wheel under the hood than the last one.

We had about a thirty minute drive to our next apartment that is in a pedestrian area in the Triana area of Las Palmas. We were directed to a public parking area but got a bit concerned when it looked like the posted rate was 115 euros a day! Our apartment owner assured us there was a weekly rate that we could get that was significantly less. After dropping our bags, we returned to the Parking Garage and with the help of Google Translate, managed to get a weekly rate of 27.50 euros. Lots of paperwork, contracts to be signed, presentation of passports but I'm pretty sure we are good to go for the three days we will be here.

We were able to walk around the area which looks very interesting.

We had a late pizza lunch at an outdoor cafe and returned to the apartment. This is our place for the next three days. Smaller than the other places we have rented but very nicely renovated and it has the location.

Chris was still felling a bit off after the flight so we rested and watched TV and headed up the street to the Super Dino for some groceries. We were not very hungry so we just picked up some light food for supper and called it an early night.
